Course Title: Certificate in TEFL 120
Course length: 120 hours (not including practicum)
Course Description: TEFL 120 is designed for learners who want a TEFL certificate with an internationally accepted length and breadth of study. Students will learn lesson planning and practical teaching skills required for the challenges of ESL teaching which is beneficial for new or experienced educators. This course is recommended for anyone looking for a first certificate in ESL teaching.
The certificate consists of 12 units which span all topics essential for an ESL/TEFL teacher
Unit 1 – Introduction to TEFL
Unit 2 – Grammatical Knowledge
Unit 3 – Grammar Teaching Techniques
Unit 4 – Vocabulary Teaching Techniques
Unit 5 – Productive Teaching Skills: Speaking and Writing
Unit 6 – Receptive Teaching Skills: Listening and Reading
Unit 7 – Using and Building Materials and Aids
Unit 8 – Pronunciation
Unit 9 – Lesson Plans
Unit 10 – Teaching Different Age Groups
Unit 11 – Using Course Books
Unit 12 – Using the Internet
Mode of Instruction and Evaluation
Course work will entail classroom teaching, self-study, and classroom practicum. Students will be assigned a tutor from the London Teachers Training College (LTTC) who will evaluate their assignments and provided additional assistance when necessary. Each student will undergo a final exam which they must pass before being awarded their certification from LTTC.
Successful completion of the Certificate in TEFL 120 will earn students a certificate from the LTTC in TEFL as well as a certificate from IMEC in recognition of their practicum. Qualified candidates must be at least 18 years of age upon enrolment, have a high school diploma or equivalency (ie 5 passes in GCE O levels including English), have a certified level of English proficiency (IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 600), and an interest in English language teaching.
