Course Title: Powerful Presentation

Course length: 80 hours

Course Description: TYLT is designed for learners who already have a background in TESOL or TEFL but would like to formally get training in teaching younger learners.  Participants with learn how children and adolescents learn language as well as many useful techniques for teaching students aged 4-11 and 12-18.  This course is strongly recommended for those with a first certificate in ESL teaching.

Course Content

The certificate consists of 10 units

Unit 1 – The Importance of ESL

Unit 2 – A Background of ESL for Young Learners

Unit 3 – How Young Learners Learn

Unit 4 – Using Storytelling and Speaking

Unit 5 – Effective Writing Activities

Unit 6 – Use of Media in Class (Songs, Jazz Chants, Poetry)

Unit 7 – Communicative and Discovery Activities

Unit 8 – Word Building Towards a Rich Vocabulary

Unit 9 – Incorporating Games, Puzzles, and Fun Quizzes

Unit 10 – Creating and Using an Effective Syllabus

Mode of Instruction and Evaluation

Coursework will entail classroom teaching, self-study, and is assessed by assignment only. Students will be assigned a tutor from the London Teachers Training College (LTTC) who will evaluate their assignments and provided additional assistance when necessary.

Certificates Awarded

Admission Requirements

Qualified candidates must be at least 18 years of age upon enrollment, have a high school diploma or equivalency (ie 5 passes in GCE O levels including English), have a certified level of English proficiency (IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 600), a teaching certificate with classroom experience, and an interest in furthering their English language teaching career.
